Pietro arrives on the island of Ponza after being released from prison. He is warmly welcomed by his daughters and his mother, Elvira, though not so much by Emma, who—confused by the situation with Antonio and disappointed by Pietro’s behavior—can’t bring herself to pretend nothing has happened.

Pietro is forced to pack his bags and return to Milan alone. Before leaving, however, he issues a warning to Emma, who is already unsettled by the charming Antonio.
