Disk 1 of the *Best of Warner Bros. 50 Cartoon Collection: Looney Tunes* gathers 25 classic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts produced by Warner Bros. Cartoons between 1946 and 1960. Directed primarily by Chuck Jones, with additional entries from Friz Freleng, Robert McKimson, and Bob Clampett, the collection spans the golden age of the studio's animation. Daffy Duck, as intergalactic hero Duck Dodgers, and his Eager Young Space Cadet are dispatched to claim Planet X and its supply of Illudium Phosdex. They clash with Marvin the Martian, who claims the planet for Mars.

3. One Froggy Evening

A construction worker finds a top-hat-wearing frog inside a demolished building's cornerstone. The frog sings and dances brilliantly — but only ever for him, dooming his dreams of getting rich.

4. Scaredy Cat

Porky Pig moves into a dilapidated old house, oblivious to the murderous mice that infest it. Only his terrified cat Sylvester perceives the danger, and his frantic warnings are mistaken for cowardice.

A small rabbit named Shorty flees the dim-witted cougar Pete Puma into Bugs Bunny's burrow. Bugs takes Pete apart with a series of tricks.

7. Duck Amuck

Daffy Duck is tormented by an unseen animator who repeatedly redraws his backgrounds, costume, voice, and even his body. The sadistic animator is finally revealed to be Bugs Bunny.

8. A Ham in a Role

A dog quits low-comedy cartoons to become a Shakespearean actor, only to be tormented at home by the Goofy Gophers, who literalize lines from Shakespeare's plays.

9. Speedy Gonzales

Starving Mexican mice, blocked from a cheese factory by Sylvester, enlist "the fastest mouse in all Mexico," Speedy Gonzales. Won the Academy Award for Best Short Subject (Cartoons).

10. Crockett-Doodle-Do

Foghorn Leghorn takes the genius chick Egghead Jr. into the woods to teach him scouting and woodcraft, only to find the boy already knows far more than he does.

11. What's Opera, Doc?

Elmer Fudd hunts Bugs Bunny through a lavish parody of Wagnerian opera. Bugs dons a Valkyrie disguise as Brünnhilde; a spurned Elmer summons a storm that seemingly kills Bugs.

12. The Great Piggy Bank Robbery

After reading a Dick Tracy comic, Daffy knocks himself out and dreams he is detective "Duck Twacy," battling an army of grotesque villains who have stolen every piggy bank in town.

On Christmas morning, Sylvester swaps gift tags to claim Granny's present — Tweety — for himself, setting off a holiday chase involving Granny and Hector the bulldog.

15. Goo Goo Goliath

A drunken stork, too tired to fly a giant's baby to the top of a beanstalk, dumps the enormous infant on a normal-sized couple, who struggle to raise the oversized tot.

16. Show Biz Bugs

Vaudeville rivals Bugs and Daffy compete for a theater audience's love. The crowd adores Bugs and ignores Daffy, driving the duck to an ever more dangerous solo act.

Porky Pig tries to put his four cats out for the night, but the felines — led by an early Sylvester — rebel, seize the house, and wage a wild war against him.

At the 1900 Paris Exposition, an escaped wildcat paints herself to look like a skunk, attracting the amorous Pepé Le Pew, who is undeterred by her repeated maulings.

Mice Hubie and Bertie exploit the hypochondria of Claude Cat, convincing him he is fatally ill, faking an operation, and finally persuading him he has died and become an angel.

Court jester Bugs is sent to recover the Singing Sword from the Black Knight and his sneezing, fire-breathing dragon. Won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.

22. Baby Bottleneck

A post-war baby boom overwhelms the stork service, so Porky and Daffy run a chaotic baby factory. A mystery egg on the assembly line triggers mayhem.

23. From A to Z-Z-Z-Z

Schoolboy Ralph Phillips constantly daydreams through class, turning arithmetic and geography into heroic fantasy adventures.

24. A Bear for Punishment
