Spring. 1943. Kursk Region. After being wounded, Galina Semenova returns to her hometown as deputy chief of the police department. She was born here, and she left here many years ago, leaving her young son to be raised by her mother. On her very first day on duty, an emergency occurs: an apartment is robbed and a man is killed. And this isn't the first such incident. A gang is operating in the city. All the attacks occur at night, and the robbers, apparently locals, hide behind masks. That same evening, Galina goes to the apartment of her son, whom she last saw when he was fourteen.

An investigation is underway. Matveyev, a man with a shady past, has been detained. During interrogation, Galina discovers that Matveyev came to town because Tokha's friend left him a will to take care of his son. She is shocked—this means Ilya knows all about his recidivist father, something she never intended to tell anyone about. Galina tries to talk to her son, but he accuses her of murdering him. Meanwhile, a new body is found in town. Galina is certain it is the work of a gang. A dealer in stolen goods has been arrested; German pistols were found on him.

Aired: 2/15/2017

A man selling stolen goods is found hanged. One of the bandits is wounded in the shootout. Galina warns her neighbor Valentina to report any requests for help. The investigation concludes that all the robbery victims were holders of large quantities of German marks...

Aired: 2/22/2017

Galina realizes that the wounded bandit is her son, Ilya, who managed to escape. She hopes to find and save her son. Liza, who has given birth to a girl, tells Galina everything she knows. An NKVD major arrives in town. There is intelligence that sabotage is being planned in the area. Therefore, the order is to abandon the search for the gang and concentrate all efforts on checking their documents...

Galina is suspended from operational duties, but her boss is willing to vouch that she's not covering for her son. Bandits led by Matveyev, hiding in the forest, rob a car carrying food supplies destined for the front...

Aired: 3/8/2017

Galina visits Liza and little Verochka, who are hiding in a forest hideout. Thanks to the girl's help, Galina manages to arrest her son Ilya. The police attempt to extract a confession from him and discover the plan of Matveyev's gang. NKVD Major Gubin gives Galina an ultimatum: find out the next target of Matveyev's gang by morning and apprehend the criminals.

7. E07

Aired: 3/15/2017

After successfully robbing a food processing plant, Matveyev's gang manages to escape the scene. On Gubin's orders, Galina is arrested on suspicion of aiding thieves. Ilya wants to rejoin the gang, but his accomplices accuse him of stealing the thieves' "common fund" and collaborating with the police. Meanwhile, another soldier's body, stabbed, is found in the river...

Aired: 3/22/2017

A German reconnaissance company is settling in the city. Ilya, leaving little Verochka with a village family, sets off for the city with Galina. Police assistant Akim informs Suprun's detachment that a German radio is located in the hospital where the Nazi headquarters is located. Galina's task is to get inside and find the radio, as it's the only way to contact their own...
