Kentucky Derby-winning jockey Angel Cordero is profiled. Mr. Emeritus In this first installment of an arts-and-crafts series, Mr. Emeritus (pronounced with a short E at the start and a long I) teaches Julia Scissors and Rubberhead Pencil how to make a piñata for the Ruler. Nigel Martin is concerned because Nigel appears sick. When Martin goes to Scot's apartment, he immediately runs into a white adult who falsely accuses him of breaking a window. Jon Wong, a film cameraman, shows the behind-the-scenes work in filming a piece on a racecar driver. (This sequence was filmed September 11, 1974, according to the slate.) Mr. Emeritus Entering just in time to break up a struggle, Mr. Emeritus teaches Julia Scissors, Rubberhead, and Ruler how to make a maraca. Musical Instruments Breaking out of the cartoon frame, the voices of Julia and Rubberhead hint to simple rhythm instruments made from household items. Outerscope I – Betty Surprises Them All The Sanilanders are convinced the kids have committed a severe crime. But they are all surprised when Betty, Cynthia's cat, washes herself. It's the kids chance to get back to Outerscope I, still stuck in the rockface. A bar of soap lubricates the ship and the rock. The Origin of Potlatch Several Native Americans hold a ritual called a potlatch, in which the host presents gifts to the guests. One story tells how the potlatch came to be. Nigel Martin brings Nigel in a bowling-ball bag to the library, where Scot is doing a zoo show. But three boys take bag from Martin. One of the boys is shocked to see Nigel in the bag. Outerscope I – Mamavek Makes an Offer The machines of Technovek give directions to Earth as a gesture of gratitude to the kids. But Edgar, Cynthia, and Willie think it's a trick. What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up? Larry Garcia, a carpenter, is seen at a construction site and then at his workshop. Mr. Emeritus Going from animation to live-action, Mr. Emeritus shows Ruler, Julia Scissor and Rubberhead the Japanese art of origami. Native-American Sign Language Between them, all the Native Americans spoke a thousand different languages, but the most understood was sign language. A Native American girl shows a number of signed words. Real People: Alex Alex takes his friend Carlos to Chinese school at Chinatown. Only when Outerscope I lands on an outer-space rainbow do they realize the Technovek family was trying to help them. Outerscope I – The Vanishing Door The backward people agree to speak in line with the kids. With that hurdle cleared, one of the residents remembers an invisible door that connects this world to the universe. Long Ago A boy talks to a member of Robert E. Peary's mission to reach the North Pole. Mr. Emeritus The tools run into a model Kikuyu hut from Kenya. Mr. Emeritus helps the others make a Kikuyu hut.
